Why Dutch Shepherd

The Capability You Want.
The Temperament You Can Live With.

Dutch Shepherd
  • Protection-capable, KNPV-proven bloodlines
  • Stable, confident temperament
  • Excellent with children and families
  • Switches off — calm in the home
  • Loyal, handler-bonded, biddable
Belgian Malinois
  • Protection-capable
  • Extreme, constant drive — difficult off-switch
  • Challenging in family environments
  • High anxiety, high misplacement rate
  • Widely available

If you researched the Malinois and wanted the working capability without the intensity that makes them impractical for most homes — the Dutch Shepherd is the answer. Same drive, same trainability, the same lineage that supplies police and military K9 programs worldwide. A dog that performs when asked and settles when it's time.

Bloodlines

Where These Dogs Come From

Both bloodlines trace to the highest levels of KNPV competition — the Dutch national working-dog program that supplies police and military K9s across Europe and North America. These are not show lines. They are working lines with decades of selection pressure for drive, nerve, and real-world utility.

Sire's Line

The Big Roy Line

Big Boy Roy, handled by Hans Pegge, won the 2013 Dutch National KNPV Championship with one of the highest scores in the history of the competition. His offspring became foundational to working-line Dutch Shepherd breeding in North America. When a breeder says "Big Roy line," serious buyers know exactly what that means: a dog built to work.

Dam's Line

The Wibo Line

The Wibo Van Leeuwen line represents the structural soundness and temperament depth that Dutch Shepherd breeders select for in dam lines. Dogs from this lineage are known for their balance of working drive and stable, confident character — the traits that produce puppies that perform in sport and protection work while remaining manageable in daily life.

Give us a call — we'll talk through what you're looking for and walk you through the pairing. Placement starts with the application below.

Waitlist Application

Read this before you apply. KNPV-line Dutch Shepherds are serious working dogs — intense, high-drive, and demanding. They are not for everyone, and we decline more homes than we approve. Every puppy is spayed or neutered before going home; we never sell breeding rights. If that fits the dog you want, we'd love to hear from you.

Submitting an application does not hold a spot. We review every application, call the homes that look like a fit, and invite approved homes to place a deposit.

FAQ

Common Questions

When will puppies be available?

Azul is not yet bred. Planned breeding is fall/winter 2026, with puppies expected early 2027 and going home spring 2027 at 8–12 weeks. We're accepting applications now to build the waitlist. Everyone on the waitlist is notified at each milestone — confirmed breeding, whelp, and go-home scheduling.

Do you ship puppies?

No. Local pickup only. We're located in Walhalla, SC — within easy driving distance of Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Clemson, Asheville NC, and north Georgia. We want to meet every buyer in person.

Are puppies UKC registered?

Both Dabo and Azul are UKC registered Dutch Shepherds, and full pedigree documentation comes with every puppy. Because every puppy is spayed or neutered before going home, puppies are placed as companions and working prospects — not breeding stock — and no breeding rights are sold.

Why are puppies spayed/neutered before they go home?

It's our placement policy, with no exceptions. Every puppy from this program goes home spayed or neutered, performed by our veterinarian and healed before pickup. It protects the bloodline from careless breeding, keeps our dogs out of the wrong hands, and means every buyer is here for the dog — not for a breeding prospect. The procedure is included in the purchase price.

How do I get on the waitlist?

Fill out the application above — that's the only way in. We review every application, call the homes that look like a fit, and invite approved homes to place a $500 deposit, which is applied toward the purchase price and sets your pick order. Deposits are non-refundable if you withdraw. If the litter is smaller than the number of reservations, deposits beyond available puppies are refunded in full or may transfer to the next litter at the buyer's choice.

How does pick order work?

Pick order is determined by the date your deposit is received, once your application is approved. First approved deposit in, first pick. The breeder retains first pick of the litter. Individual puppy evaluations are conducted at 6–7 weeks and shared with waitlist holders to help inform selection.

How does the $500 working-home rebate work?

Every home pays the same $2,000. When your dog enters its first official competition or trial in any approved sport or activity, we pay you $500 back — bringing your real price to $1,500. Approved activities include IGP/Schutzhund, PSA, Mondio Ring, French Ring, personal protection sport, law enforcement and military certification, barn hunt, scent work, nose work, search and rescue, and other organized working or sport disciplines. No titles required — entering your first official event earns the rebate. We'll talk through what you have in mind during the phone call.

Are Dutch Shepherds good family dogs?

Yes — and this is one of the most important distinctions between the Dutch Shepherd and the Belgian Malinois. Dutch Shepherds from KNPV lines are bred for stable temperament alongside working drive. They are loyal, handler-bonded dogs that integrate well with families, including children, when properly socialized and exercised. They are not low-energy dogs — they need a job, consistent structure, and an engaged owner. For the right family, they are exceptional.

What vaccinations will puppies have at pickup?

Puppies will have age-appropriate core vaccinations at pickup, documented by a licensed veterinarian. Vaccination records will be provided to every buyer at time of sale as required by SC law.

What are the SC sales tax implications?

Under South Carolina law, the sale of puppies is subject to state sales tax. Sales tax will be added to the purchase price at time of sale.
